The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has strongly protested to the German Ambassador Alexander Lambsdorff in connection with a meeting in Kiev between one of the deputies of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party and the head of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, a terrorist organization banned in Russia (recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation). This was announced on April 27 by the press service of the department.
"The Ambassador has expressed a strong protest in connection with the recent meeting in Kiev <...> of the Bundestag deputy, member of the parliamentary Committee on International Affairs from the ruling Christian Democratic Union party, R. Kiesewetter, with the head of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria terrorist organization banned in Russia, A. Zakayev, who is on the international wanted list," the statement said. in the Telegram channel.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the named German politician, during a conversation with Zakayev, welcomed the anti-Russian activities of the terrorists, which they bred on the territory of the Belgorod and Kursk regions, and also spoke about the recruitment of Russians living in Germany into the ranks of the group.
Moscow, as emphasized in the statement, regarded the meeting held with the support of the office of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, as proof of the German authorities' focus on potential interference in their internal affairs.
Lambsdorf, who was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, arrived there the same day in the morning. At that time, it was not reported what caused the incident. After a while, the Izvestia correspondent stated that the head of the German diplomatic mission had left the building of the instance, where he had been staying for 50 minutes. While waiting for his car, the ambassador mostly remained silent, not interacting with the journalists around him.
The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was recognized by Russia as a terrorist organization on April 7, and after a while, just like its numerous units established around the world, it was included in the lists of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring.
