Children's skin requires particularly careful care, but some actions that have become familiar to many parents may, on the contrary, worsen its condition. Valeria Bognacheva, a pediatric dermatologist at the SM Clinic for children, told Izvestia on April 29 about what everyday factors can harm a child's skin.

The specialist explained that the child's skin is sensitive to external influences, so even everyday habits can affect her condition. The doctor attributed frequent washing with aggressive products, insufficient moisture, overheating and wearing tight or too warm clothes, as well as the use of unsuitable diapers to risk factors.

"In addition, the use of unsuitable diapers or their too frequent changing, neglect of sun protection, regular rubbing and combing of the skin, self—selection of cosmetics without consulting a doctor and ignoring the first symptoms of skin problems negatively affects the child's skin," the dermatologist said.

According to Bognacheva, excessive care can disrupt the protective barrier of the skin, making it dry and prone to irritation. Incorrectly selected products can cause itching, peeling and inflammation, especially in children with atopic skin. Cosmetics components, including fragrances and dyes, which can provoke allergic reactions, pose an additional risk.

"Clothing made of synthetic or coarse fabrics can cause irritation, while natural materials allow air to pass through better and are less likely to provoke skin reactions," the doctor emphasized.

She also noted that the quality of water affects the condition of the skin: hard or chlorinated water can cause dryness, and too hot water can damage the protective barrier. Parents should pay attention to changes in the color and structure of the skin, the appearance of rashes, itching or cracks, as this may indicate a problem. According to the specialist, if you experience severe discomfort, rapid spread of changes, or symptoms of general malaise, you should consult a doctor in time to avoid complications.

Dermatologist Marya Sergeeva said on April 24 that the spring sun is often perceived as soft and safe, but during this period the skin needs protection no less than in summer. According to the expert, as a result, the skin receives ultraviolet radiation even in cloudy weather or when staying indoors by the window. The expert also clarified that in spring, the skin is especially vulnerable after winter: the protective barrier is broken, dryness and micro-damage are often observed, which is why even moderate sun exposure can cause redness and pigmentation.
