Scammers use a new deception scheme in which money is actually credited to the victim's account first, and then they are asked to return it under the pretext of an error. Kontur, an information security expert, told Izvestia on April 27 how to recognize such a trick and not become a victim of scams.Aegis" and Staffcop by Daniel Borislavsky.

According to him, the transfer amount can vary from several hundred to tens of thousands of rubles. Almost immediately after the transfer, the alleged sender contacts the person — by phone or via messengers — and informs them about the "erroneous transfer." Different stories can be used as an explanation: accidental payment for goods, transfer to a relative, or an error when entering a number.

Further, the attackers usually ask for a refund not through a bank refund, but to another card or phone number. Sometimes they even offer to deduct the "commission" and transfer a smaller amount. As a result, the victim independently sends money to an unknown recipient, actually making a new transfer.

"Such receipts may be related to fraudulent transactions or cashing schemes. In this case, the recipient becomes an intermediate link in the chain of transfers, and then may face bank issues, restrictions on transactions, or verification of the origin of funds," the expert explained.

He specified that in some cases the scheme develops further. After the transfer of funds, a person may receive a call allegedly from a bank, law enforcement agencies, or security service and inform them that they have become a participant in a suspicious transaction. Then the pressure begins with the requirement to transfer money to a "secure account" or follow additional instructions.

Among the main signs of such a scheme, the expert highlights haste, emotional pressure, requests for transfer outside of official banking procedures, transfer of communication to messengers, as well as threats of possible consequences.

If money has been credited to the account from an unknown sender, the specialist recommends not spending it and not returning it yourself. Instead, you should contact the bank and issue a refund through official procedures. The sender can be informed that such issues are resolved only through a financial institution.

"The main mistake of users is an attempt to quickly "close the issue" and refund the money manually. This creates the risk of engaging in questionable financial transactions. It is also important not to succumb to pressure and not transfer card data, SMS codes and access to banking applications to third parties," Borislavsky concluded.

Galaktion Kuchava, an expert on the Moshelovka platform of the Popular Front, reported earlier in the day that fraudsters began transferring money to Russian cards, and then asking for a refund via messengers. It is specified that fulfilling such a request may lead to the blocking of bank cards and accounts.
