The M-11 Neva expressway between St. Petersburg and Moscow will be transformed into Russia's first electric corridor. According to the project, six multifunctional road service zones with charging stations, shops and recreation areas should be built on the highway.

The first two complexes are planned to be completed this year. The contractor is Rushydro, writes Delovoy Peterburg with reference to Anastasia Kozlova, CEO of Avtodor-Development.

According to her, the appearance of the "electric corridor" should solve the problem of many owners of electric vehicles. They will be able to cover a 600 km route between the two capitals. Previously, it was impossible to do this due to the weak infrastructure. Thus, electric cars will be able to go beyond urban use, long-distance trips will become available for environmentally friendly transport.

Construction of the first two complexes started in the summer of 2025 on the 63rd and 75th km of the highway. A total of six such hubs are to be built under the project.

It is impossible to create a large hub along the road where several electric vehicles can be recharged at the same time without a good energy supply. To do this, it is necessary to build substations and lay separate lines. The cost of energy infrastructure is a significant part of all capital investments in a fast charging point, writes 78.ru . Choosing the M-11YU highway, connecting two megacities, as a pilot site for such a project has the best chance of recouping investments.

In early April, the government of the Russian Federation published a new version of the program of activities of the state-owned Avtodor company for the period from 2026 to 2030. It follows from the document that the total amount of financing for the construction and reconstruction of roads has been increased from 832 billion rubles to 1.05 trillion rubles. Thus, the amount of allocated funds will increase by 173 billion rubles.
