Trump said he deliberately delayed his evacuation during the shooting at the hotel.
On April 26, US President Donald Trump said that during the shooting at a dinner at the Washington Hilton hotel, he deliberately delayed his evacuation because he wanted to understand what was happening.
"I wanted to see what was going on. <...> I probably forced them (Secret Service agents. — Ed.) act a little slower. I said: "Wait a minute, wait a minute. Let's see," Trump explained in an interview with CBS television in response to a journalist's question about why the actions of the guards looked chaotic and slow.
According to the interviewer, it took the Secret Service agents 10 seconds to outflank the president, and then another 20 seconds to get him out.
Trump and his wife Melania were evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on April 25 after the sounds of gunfire. Later, the American leader announced that the shooter had been detained. The federal prosecutor in Washington, Jeanine Pirro, said that the detainee after the shooting will appear in court on Monday, April 27.
