The first liquidators of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) were mistaken about the danger that threatened them, but over time some tried to avoid high doses of radiation. This was announced on April 26 by Sergey Mishkarev, a participant in the liquidation, chairman of the Kurgan regional organization Soyuz-Chernobyl.

"If a person refused to go to the danger zone, he remained at the location of the unit: he was engaged in household work, serviced steam generator machines in the bathhouse. The radiation dose was received there, but minimal," he said.
