The Russian Interior Ministry has warned about the danger of SMS-bombing scammers
The Russian Interior Ministry has defined the basic rules of conduct for SMS attacks, urging citizens to remain calm and not engage in dialogue with scammers. This was announced on April 26 in the press center of the department.
The ministry explained that SMS bombing is a cyberattack in which a lot of messages arrive at the victim's number in a short time. Such actions can lead to leakage of personal data and theft of money. The ministry stressed that such an attack usually does not last long and is of a psychological nature, so the main defense is prudence and non-panic.
"Security rules are critically important during the SMS attack itself. An attack usually doesn't last long, so it's important to act correctly and not panic. SMS bombing is a psychological attack. Calmness and prudence are the best protection," the Interior Ministry told TASS.
It is noted that during the attack it is strictly forbidden to follow links from messages, click on suspicious buttons and transfer codes or personal data. Also, you should not try to negotiate with scammers to stop mailing. The agency's experts advised blocking every number from which spam comes in order to partially streamline the flow of messages.
For additional protection, the ministry recommends turning on the "Do Not disturb" mode on the phone and contacting the telecom operator to limit incoming calls from short numbers. In addition, you should contact the bank's support service to ensure that there are no unauthorized transactions with accounts.
The Interior Ministry added that if you receive a suspicious transfer through the Quick Payment System (SBP), you should not refund the money yourself. In such a situation, it is necessary to call the bank at the official number and inform about the payment. After checking and confirming the client's innocence, the bank will remove the possible block. Citizens were also advised to set limits on incoming transfers or limit the acceptance of funds from unknown senders in the mobile application.
Earlier, on March 26, it was reported that remote scammers began using complex schemes to deceive Russians under the pretext of online conversations of housemates on the topic of landscaping. A misled citizen follows the instructions of criminals, makes a transfer, and as a result loses his money.
