- The media reported the participation of about 5,000 people in a protest against Merz in Germany.
About 5,000 people took part in a rally against the policies of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and possible cuts in social spending. This was reported on April 25 by the Hessenschau portal with reference to law enforcement officers.
"According to police, about 5,000 people took part in Saturday's demonstration in the center of Marburg. Initially, about 2,000 protesters were reported, but these figures were later adjusted. <...> The protest was directed against the federal government's policy and the threat of cuts in social benefits," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, Merz himself stated that there would be no reduction in state pensions under his leadership. He rejected criticism of his earlier words that in the future the state pension may become only a basic system of social protection in old age.
On April 24, Izvestia published footage showing hundreds of people gathered at a rally outside the building of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party (which includes the current German chancellor) to show their dissatisfaction with their country's energy policy. One of the protesters, a man named Stefan, said that many of his fellow citizens expect the coming of the so—called energy revolution.
