The disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant) has changed attitudes towards nuclear energy and forced us to pay more attention to safety in this area. This was announced by the IAEA on April 25.

"It also became a turning point that demonstrated the need for international cooperation in the field of nuclear safety," the agency told RIA Novosti.

The IAEA clarified that one of the most long-term consequences of the accident was the creation of international legally binding documents. The Organization promoted the adoption in 1986 of conventions on early notification and assistance in the event of a nuclear accident or radiation emergency.

The agency added that the lessons of the Chernobyl accident have led to increased regulatory independence, improved reactor design, improved emergency preparedness, and a more attentive attitude to safety culture.

On April 24, Evgeny Adamov, the liquidator of the Chernobyl accident, scientific director of the N. A. Dollezhal Research and Design Institute of Energy Engineering, announced that key institutions with real information about the Chernobyl disaster had prepared a national report on the prospects for overcoming the consequences in Russia. Adamov noted that the medical issue is one of the most frequent topics for spreading false information.
