The expert called the consequences of the approval of the EU loan to Ukraine

The allocation of a €90 billion loan by the European Union (EU) to Ukraine will have consequences. Professor and Doctor of Sciences Juan Antonio de Castro told Izvestia on April 25.

"The most serious thing about this scandal is that Ms. [EC President Ursula] von der Leyen says that only Russia will pay for the costs [of the conflict]," he said.

The professor added that residents of European countries eventually pay for the financing of the Kiev authorities, since, according to him, funds for this are taken from budgets formed at the expense of taxes from EU citizens.

He noted that Europe should abandon the uniformity of views and assess the situation where it needs to develop cooperation with Russia and China, rather than relying solely on American leader Donald Trump, whom he considers capable of causing serious damage to the European Union.

The Wall Street Journal newspaper stated on April 25 that financial assistance to Ukraine is becoming a problem for the EU. The loan is not enough, because Kiev's needs have grown since the funds were approved. It is specified that the loan will cover only two thirds of Ukraine's military and budget expenditures, and the country will need about 45 billion euros more by the end of 2027.

On April 23, the EU finally approved the allocation of a loan in the amount of €90 billion to Ukraine. The funds will be received by the EU in the Eurobond format, which will be paid by European countries. Of the total amount, €30 billion will be allocated for macroeconomic support to cover budget needs, and €60 billion for the development of Kiev's military—industrial potential, including the purchase of defense products.
