Two German government ministers, Minister of Education and Family Affairs Karin Prin and Minister of Construction Verena Huberz, were victims of a large—scale phishing attack carried out through the Signal messenger. This was reported by Der Spiegel magazine on April 24, citing its own sources.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany (Counterintelligence) has sent warnings to the leaders of the factions and the Bundestag administration, informing them about the hacker attack.

It is assumed that the scammers were able to unnoticeably gain access to information from the numerous chats in which the German deputies are members. According to the magazine, the attack affected parliamentarians of almost all factions.

In addition, the campaign was directed against NATO troops. At the moment, 300 messenger users are known to have been victims of this attack, including many journalists, the newspaper notes.

On April 23, Der Spiegel magazine learned about the hacking of the Bundestag chairman's account with work chats. It is noted that the victim was a member of those closed groups where there were members of the government, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
