Colombian cyclist Munoz died after falling at a competition
Colombian cyclist Christian Camilo Munoz, who was 30 years old, died a few days after falling at the Tour du Jura competition in France on April 18. This was reported on April 24 by The New York Times (NYT) with reference to the press service of the Colombian Cycling Federation.
The cause of death was complications caused by an infection that developed after a knee injury. The athlete's condition has deteriorated dramatically in recent days.
"It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the Colombian Cycling Federation and its executive committee mourn the passing of the talented athlete Camilo Munoz, cyclist of the NU Colombia team, which occurred as a result of complications following the accident," the federation said in a statement.
They noted that his passing had left a huge void in Colombian cycling and in the hearts of everyone who knew him and shared the road and races with him. The federation stressed that Munoz will be remembered for his dedication, discipline and character both on the bike and in life.
Cycling Up To Date portal reported on February 16 that Italian cyclist Francesco Mazzoleni died at the age of 18. The tragedy occurred near the town of Barzana in northern Italy.
