- Axios announced the date of direct talks between the United States and Iran in Pakistan
Direct talks between the US and Iranian delegations will take place on April 27 in Islamabad, Pakistan. This was announced on April 24 by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing sources.
"A meeting between the American envoys and [Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas] Araqchi may take place on Monday, after [US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared] Kushner and [his special envoy] Steven Witkoff will hold separate bilateral talks with Pakistani mediators," Ravid wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
He also added, citing an unnamed Pakistani official, that the Iranian Foreign Ministry will hold meetings with Pakistani partners on April 24 and 25 and discuss the resumption of negotiations with Washington. In addition, according to Ravid, Araqchi is expected to travel from Islamabad to Muscat, Oman, and then to Moscow, so it is unclear when he will meet with American negotiators.
Axios reported on April 23 that Iran is allegedly delaying negotiations with the United States due to pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which insists on a tougher stance. The Israeli N12 TV channel, in turn, noted that a member of the Iranian delegation and Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, allegedly resigned from the Iranian negotiating team after the IRGC intervened.
White House press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt said on April 24 that the United States has noted some progress in negotiations with Iran in recent days. At the same time, Leavitt noted that all members of the Trump team will be ready to fly to Pakistan if necessary to develop negotiations with the Iranian side.
