The crisis in the Middle East is slowing down the economic growth of the European Union (EU). This was announced on April 24 by the head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, following the results of the European informal summit in Cyprus.

"This crisis is slowing down economic growth and directly affecting the lives of our citizens and companies," Costa said. A recording of the summit is available on the EU Council's website.

He noted that the European Commission has already presented to the leaders of the union countries a set of emergency measures to eliminate the consequences of the energy crisis in Europe.

The Financial Times newspaper reported yesterday that Europe remains dependent on fossil fuel imports, and the current crisis is the third in the last six years after the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2022 energy crisis. As a result, EU countries have fewer and fewer resources to mitigate the effects of economic shocks.
