- Deputy Foreign Ministers of the SCO countries called for an end to aggression against Iran
The deputy foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries called for an immediate end to the armed aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran. This was announced by the Russian Foreign Ministry on April 24.
"The sharp escalation of tension in the world as a result of the aggressive actions of the United States and Israel against Iran, which is a member state of the SCO, was noted with serious concern. The need for an early political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict was emphasized," reads a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that the SCO member states advocate building an architecture of indivisible security and sustainable growth in Eurasia. In this context, the work of the Belarusian diplomatic group on the Eurasian Charter of Multipolarity and Diversity in the 21st Century was highlighted.
Earlier in the day, the Islamic Republic's ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said that Tehran does not consider the current truce decision with Washington to be final and insists on concluding a comprehensive agreement with practical guarantees. The statement was made during the next round of consultations on international activities and regional security.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on February 9 that NATO, the European Union and the OSCE have no prospects and are becoming a thing of the past. He also noted the increased interest in Russia's initiative to create a Eurasian security structure in which all countries of the continent would participate.
