In St. Petersburg, a student trusted a "health worker" and a fake investigator, and gave the scammers money and jewelry from his parents worth about 55 million rubles in an attempt to avoid criminal liability. This was announced on April 24 by a source of Izvestia.

The multi-stage scheme of scammers began with a call from an unknown woman who identified herself as a nurse at the clinic and convinced the young man to dictate the SMS code. Following this, a call came from the "operator's security service" — the student was told that his account on "Public Services" had been hacked, after which he received a letter claiming to provide access to accounts to a "terrorist".

Then a fake employee of Rosfinmonitoring and a man who identified himself as an investigator joined the victim's processing. He gave the student a day to ensure that a certain "curator" could vouch for him — otherwise he was threatened with breaking into the door and a search.

"The young man was monitored around the clock — he turned on the camera and a screen demonstration, and the attacker did not allow him to turn off and demanded to coordinate all actions with her," the source said.

The scammers convinced the student to demonstrate the entire apartment on video and send the parental safe for "scanning". The young man wrapped him in a blanket and handed him over to an unknown person, pledging not to answer calls from relatives and follow the instructions of his interlocutors for three days.

Soon, the student suspected that he had become a victim of fraud and contacted his relatives. The parents found their son in a cafe, where the scammers sent him to wait for further orders.

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Omsk region reported yesterday that a criminal case had been opened in Omsk on fraud, the victim of which was a 15-year-old schoolgirl who gave the criminals 170 thousand rubles from the funds raised for the graduation party. The 50-year-old mother of a teenager contacted the police, who reported the disappearance of her daughter and the loss of an envelope with 380 thousand rubles.
