Russia supports the sovereignty of Lebanon and hopes that the ceasefire reached will be strictly observed. This was announced on April 24 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We express our solidarity with the residents and the leadership of this country, and we confirm our principled position in support of the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic," Zakharova said at a briefing.

The diplomat recalled that on April 21, on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a shipment of humanitarian aid with a total weight of 28 tons was delivered to Beirut. It included mobile power plants, food, tents, blankets, mattresses and pillows, and the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, took part in the handover ceremony. At the same time, 67 Russian citizens and 60 Belarusian citizens were taken away in the opposite direction, who found themselves in a difficult life situation due to the aggravation of the situation in the region.

"In difficult times, Russia has always extended a helping hand to the Lebanese people, as well as to any other nations that seek such help," Zakharova stressed.

In addition, she expressed the hope that the ceasefire in Lebanon will help to correct the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region.

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the truce between Israel and Lebanon would be extended for three weeks.

On April 16, Trump indicated that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to a 10-day cease-fire after trilateral negotiations. Despite this, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will not leave Lebanon after the cease-fire.
