The aggressive attitude of unfriendly countries towards the St. George Ribbon campaign in different cities of Russia suggests that this symbol of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII) acts on people like holy water on "evil spirits". This was announced on April 24 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

The diplomat drew attention to the fact that the ribbon itself does not imply any disrespectful meaning, however, actions on the eve of Victory Day with the participation of Russians around the world cause a negative reaction in unfriendly states.

"How can this be compared? In my opinion, it really is with holy water. She doesn't do anything wrong, but as soon as she gets on the evil spirits, she starts hissing and crawling away," said the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at a briefing in Izhevsk.

On April 22, the St. George Ribbon campaign began in Russia, in which volunteers from the Volunteers of Victory headquarters will distribute millions of ribbons to passersby in 8,000 locations across the country. The campaign is timed to coincide with Victory Day and will run until May 9th. Rossotrudnichestvo reported that the St. George Ribbon campaign was also launched in Tanzania, Armenia, Lebanon and Egypt on the eve of Victory Day.
