Meta (the company's activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) is going to lay off 10% of its employees, or about 8 thousand people, in order to compensate for the significant costs of developing artificial intelligence (AI). This was reported by Bloomberg on April 23.

"The job cuts are taking place against the backdrop of active investments by the CEO [of the company] Mark Zuckerberg's investment in the talents and infrastructure needed to develop advanced artificial intelligence products," the article says.

According to the newspaper, the company announced future layoffs in an internal memo sent to employees. At the same time, the cuts themselves will begin as early as May 20 of this year.

In March, Reuters reported that Meta was also planning to cut more than 20% of its workforce in an effort to offset spending on developing artificial intelligence technologies. It was clarified that if Meta laid off such a large number of staff, this reduction would be the largest since the restructuring in late 2022 and early 2023.
