Janis Kalnins, the former goalkeeper of the Latvian national ice hockey team, may be stripped of his coaching certificate due to his performances with Amur Khabarovsk. This was announced on April 24 by the LSM portal.

Head of the Latvian Council of Sports Federations (LSFP) Vladimir Steinbergs said that the agency is preparing amendments to the rules of the Cabinet of Ministers. The changes will allow revoking certificates from specialists for violating ethical principles.

"A person who volunteered for a club from an aggressor country cannot teach our children," Steinbergs stressed.

Kalnins represented Latvia at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. After signing a contract with Amur Khabarovsk in 2022, the athlete was suspended from playing for the national team.

Kalnins played for Amur from 2022 to 2024. As a member of the Khabarovsk club, he played 240 matches, of which he played 17 to zero, conceding 513 goals, adds "Газета.Ru ".

On April 20, deputy of the Riga City Council Alexei Roslikov announced that in Latvia children were forbidden to communicate in Russian on school grounds, even in their free time. In his opinion, Latvian politicians consider Russian to be a "kitchen language" — intended only for personal communication outside of public places.

On April 16, Riga Mayor Viestur Kleinbergs said that Roslikov, who defended the Russian language and left for Belarus, would be able to participate in the work of the city parliament only from a Latvian correctional institution.
