- The media reported on Britain's allocation of almost $890 million to France to combat migrants.
The UK will allocate almost almost $890 million to France to combat illegal migrants crossing the English Channel by boat. This was reported on April 23 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper, citing sources.
"The UK will allocate 500 million pounds ($675 million) to strengthen measures in northern France, as well as another 160 million pounds ($216 million), depending on the success of new measures to stop the crossing of the English Channel," the publication says.
It is specified that the British funds are planned to be used to increase the number of police officers who patrol the coast in northern France. It is from this region that migrants in inflatable boats most often try to reach the territory of the United Kingdom.
According to the approved plan, the number of patrol officers will increase by 53%. If in the period from 2023 to 2026, 907 people provided security in this zone, then in 2026-2029, the staff will be increased to 1,400 specialists.
On April 22, Reuters reported that the number of immigrants permanently residing in the European Union (EU) reached a record high of 64.2 million in 2025, which is about 2.1 million more than in 2024. The publication added that Germany ranks first in the EU in terms of the number of migrants, with 18 million foreigners living there.
