American conductor Michael Tilson-Thomas has died at the age of 81. This was announced on April 23 on the musician's official website.

It is noted that Tilson-Thomas passed away on April 22 at home surrounded by loved ones. In 2021, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Despite his serious illness, he continued to study music.

As specified in the obituary, Tilson-Thomas has sisters, nieces and nephews. Tilson-Thomas is a 12—time Grammy Award winner who has conducted leading orchestras in Europe and the USA.
