- The autonomous Navio tractor has traveled almost 3,000 km without a driver in the cockpit
The mainline tractor with artificial intelligence technologies developed by Navio (formerly SberAutoTech), overcame 2.8 thousand km in autonomous mode without a driver in the cabin and any remote control. This is stated in the message of the company's press service, which was received by Izvestia on April 23.
The speed of movement in autonomous mode reached 83 km/h. It is stated that during the tests, the truck successfully coped with such tasks as changing lanes, bypassing static objects and stopping at traffic lights. The tests took place at the FSUE NAMI training ground both during daylight and at night. It is noted that in an emergency scenario, the tractor was ready to perform a minimum risk maneuver on its own and make a safe stop.

Such test conditions reproduce the 4th level of automation according to the classification of the International Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), in which the autonomous driving system is able to perform all control tasks within its design area of operation without the need for human intervention.
The company indicated that the distance of 2.8 thousand km is comparable to the distance from Moscow to Novosibirsk. A large-scale logistics operation was modeled on the tests. As Navio emphasized, this is an important step towards future certification tests.

Currently, on public roads, according to the current regulation governing the movement of highly automated vehicles (VATS), a test driver must be in the cabin of an autonomous tractor.
On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the movement of unmanned trucks along the M-12 Vostok highway during the opening ceremony of the transport industry facilities, which was held via video link. The project started with a simultaneous trip along the route of highly automated vehicles (VATS) of three domestic manufacturers of unmanned vehicles — Yandex, NAVIO and KAMAZ. According to the president, by 2028, the fleet of unmanned trucks will number 992 vehicles, and by the end of 2030 it will exceed 4 thousand units.
