- The Finnish government has proposed to allow the import of nuclear weapons for defense
The Finnish government has submitted to Parliament a proposal to allow the import and storage of nuclear weapons for the country's defense. This was announced on April 23 by the Finnish Ministry of Defense.
"The government proposes to remove legal barriers to the import of nuclear devices into Finland, as well as to their transportation, supply or storage in Finland in the context of Finnish defense," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
At the same time, the acquisition, production, development and research of nuclear weapons in the country will still be prohibited. It is noted that this decision is aimed at ensuring defense within the framework of cooperation with NATO.
The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said on April 20 that the world is currently on the verge of a new nuclear arms race. He noted that in a number of countries in Europe, Asia Minor and the Far East, the issue of the possible possession of nuclear weapons is increasingly being raised in the public space.
