In March of this year, the average amount of car loans issued was 1.49 million rubles. Compared to the first month of spring last year, this figure increased by 22.3%. This was announced on April 23 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

The highest average amount of car loans issued among the regions of the Russian Federation in March was recorded in Moscow (2.09 million rubles). Next in the ranking are the Moscow Region (1.83 million rubles), St. Petersburg (1.76 million rubles) and the Leningrad Region (1.61 million rubles), as well as the Krasnodar Territory (1.6 million rubles) and the Tyumen Region with Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (1.60 million rubles).

The largest increase was recorded in the Tula region (+26.1%). Growth above 20% was also recorded in St. Petersburg, Vologda Oblast, the Republic of Tatarstan and Moscow. The lowest dynamics occurred in the Volgograd Region (+12.6%) and the Udmurt Republic (+12.9%).

The NBKI noted that the average car loan grew until September last year, after which it stabilized at 1.5 million rubles. Demand for car loans decreased due to increased recycling and low risk appetite on the part of banks, which place high demands on borrowers.

As reported on March 24, in February 2026, the average amount of car loans issued amounted to 1.52 million rubles, which is 27.3% more than in the same month last year (1.2 million rubles).

At the same time, more than 60% of Russians are actually unable to get a car loan. To approve the application, the borrower's income must be at least twice the monthly payment, which currently averages about 37 thousand rubles. According to Rosstat, only about 40% of citizens meet such requirements.
