- The mother of the girl held in Mexico did not rule out pressure on her daughter in the country
Marina, the mother of 17-year-old Russian Kristina Romanova, who is being held in Mexico, said that her daughter's words about her desire to stay in the country could have been uttered under pressure. The woman told Izvestia about this on April 23.
In her opinion, only the girl's official appeal to the Russian consuls, in which she asked for help, can be considered legitimate. At the same time, Romanova called the remaining methods "fabricated."
"The only legitimate letters are these two letters from Kristina in Russian, <...> where she asks for help, says that she is in a difficult situation, that she is being forced to take psychotropic drugs, that she is being pressured, and that her freedom has been deprived. That the only place where she can be safe is Russia," the woman said.
It is noted that we are talking about a written appeal from the girl, which she managed to transmit in the summer of 2025 — at that time, the Russian consuls were allowed to hold four meetings with her.
Marina Romanova announced on April 18 that she was not allowed to meet her daughter. At the same time, the girl herself is convinced that her mother does not need her and her parents do not want to see her.
On April 12, the Russian Embassy in Mexico informed Izvestia that the situation with Romanova was under special control. The diplomatic mission added that the continued detention in an institution of a person who is not detained, arrested or convicted appears to be legally groundless by all legal canons.
On the same day, Yakov Fedorov, head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Mexico, said that the Mexican authorities refuse to return Romanova to Russia and have not provided consular access to her since August 2025. According to the diplomat, the girl is in a specialized facility of the Mexican Attorney General's Office for Family and Children Affairs.
