Production of passenger cars in the Russian Federation has increased with a decline in truck production

In Russia, 180,000 passenger cars were produced in the first quarter of 2026, which is 2.3% more than in the same period last year. This follows from a recent Rosstat report.

Separately, in March, the production of passenger cars amounted to 66.9 thousand units. This is 9.8% more than in March last year, and 1.2% more than in February this year.

As for other types of vehicles, truck production in January-March fell by almost a quarter (-30.1%) year-on-year and amounted to 25.5 thousand units. In March, domestic factories produced 10.5 thousand trucks (-25.4% by March 2025 and +12.5% by February 2026).

In addition, the production of buses weighing more than 5 tons in the first quarter decreased by 19.9% (to 1,800 units), and weighing no more than 5 tons fell immediately by 57.8% (to 1,599 units). The number of internal combustion engines produced for vehicles in January-March amounted to 38.9 thousand units (-26%).

Earlier that day, it was reported that a plant for the production of automobile engines of the AGR holding and Defetoo company had been launched in Kaluga. The company will become the base platform for providing engines for all car models produced at the partners' joint plants in Russia.
