- The Ukrainian authorities deprived the mother of a captured Ukrainian Armed Forces militant of payments
The Ukrainian authorities have charged a captured militant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with treason, depriving his mother of payments. On April 23, Ukrainian soldier Ivan Kovalev from the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told about this.
"[My mother] immediately received [notification] that I was missing, then that I was in captivity. Because they recognized that I was in captivity, my mother received a monetary allowance. And at some point, nothing just [anymore] comes. My mother submitted a request to the hotline of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and a few days later she received a notification that I was charged with treason," he said in an interview with TASS.
According to Kovalev, his mother was not informed of the reason for accusing her son of treason.
He said that after being captured in the Kursk region in Russia, he was charged under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). According to him, in this way he is recognized as a terrorist in the Russian Federation, and in Ukraine he is accused of treason.
On April 22, the commander of the reconnaissance company of the 7th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Yuzhnaya group of the Russian Armed Forces with the call sign Kesha said that the militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had attempted to kill their surrendering colleagues with the help of 15 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Slavyansk direction.
