The US Treasury Department estimated the annual damage from fraudsters at hundreds of billions of dollars.

Foreign criminals rob Americans of hundreds of billions of dollars every year. This was announced on April 22 by Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Jonathan Burke.

"Organized criminal groups carry out scams from large centers abroad. Internally, fraud costs our taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars annually," Burke said at a House committee hearing.

He also called this level of violations of the law unacceptable. According to Burke, the fight against fraud has become a defining challenge for the Ministry of Finance.
