Due to the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), France is accelerating its response to equip Rafale fighter jets with low-cost missiles. This was reported by the newspaper Le Parisien on April 22.

"After a period of indecision and too slow development of anti—drone programs, France has taken the decisive step by entering the active phase of testing the Rafale fighter jet to integrate new, more economical ammunition adapted to destroy drones," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the signal for the conversion was the shooting down of Iranian Shahed UAVs over the Persian Gulf by Rafale fighter jets, using powerful and very expensive MICA missiles.

President of the Senate of the Republic Gerard Larcher said on April 22 that French President Emmanuel Macron's approach to the state budget is stifling the country. He noted that the authorities ordered spending cuts of €6 billion due to the large government debt instead of supporting the industries that have suffered the most from the conflict in the Middle East.
