The Russian diplomat pointed to preparations for a war in the EU against Russia
European countries are not striving for sustainable peace in the OSCE region, but, on the contrary, are preparing for a large-scale conflict with Russia. This was stated by the head of the Russian delegation at the OSCE Security Cooperation Forum, Yulia Zhdanova.
The diplomat noted that the European Union (EU) increased defense spending by almost 60% from 2022 to 2025, while their amount amounted to €381 billion.
"Such large—scale preparations leave no doubt that Europe is not interested in long-term and stable peace in the OSCE region, but is preparing a major war against Russia," TASS quoted Zhdanova as saying.
The diplomat added that Ukraine only acts as a variable in this equation. Kiev is being used to achieve self-serving military and political goals — to give Europe time to prepare for a future clash.
On the same day, Reuters reported that Germany had unveiled a new military strategy that maintains a target of 260,000 troops and 200,000 reservists in the Bundeswehr. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stressed that the goal of the German Armed Forces is "to become the strongest army in Europe."
