Traders made more than 4,000 oil sales worth $430 million just 15 minutes before US President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire with Iran. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on April 22.

"According to the London Stock Exchange, on April 21, from 19:54 to 19:56 GMT (from 22:54 to 22:56 Moscow time), 4,260 oil shipments totaling $430 million were sold on the oil market, based on the current price of Brent crude futures. At 20:10 GMT (23:10 Moscow time) Trump said he would extend the truce indefinitely," the article says.

This is the third case in April and the fourth since the beginning of the Middle East conflict, when large, well-planned bets on changes in oil prices were made shortly before important statements about the war with Iran.

One of these bets brought in $500 million in March, and the bets in April totaled about $2.1 billion, the authors specify.

On the same day, Trump admitted that peace talks with Iran could take place within the next one and a half to three days. Prior to that, the American leader said that the temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran would most likely not be extended. He also specified the end time of the truce. According to Trump, it will be "Wednesday evening, Washington time," that is, the night of April 22-23, Moscow time. The US president did not specify the specific time when the contract expires.

Against the background of the breakdown of negotiations between the United States and Iran, the exchange prices for Brent crude oil rose by 6.3% on April 21. It was clarified that oil sales reached more than $96 per barrel.
