Novak pointed to the demand for LNG from Russia amid the conflict in the Middle East.
Due to the conflict in the Middle East, demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG), including Russian, has increased. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on April 22.
"The demand for liquefied natural gas is high now, as you know, as a result of the shortage caused by the events in the Middle East. Therefore, Russian liquefied natural gas is in demand, and it is clear that we have a number of projects that supply various consumers and buyers," TASS quoted him as saying.
Novak added that the Russian pipeline infrastructure is not being used at full capacity. If there is a need for additional volumes, the Russian Federation will increase the available supply capacity through the Turkish Stream and Blue Stream pipelines, he stressed.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on April 10 that EU countries increased imports of Russian LNG in the first three months of 2026 amid the conflict in the Middle East. It is specified that in the first quarter of this year, shipments from Yamal LNG to EU countries increased to 5 million tons. This is a 17% increase compared to last year. In addition, the EU accounted for 69 shipments of LNG shipments from the 71 project.
