In India, 13 people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory
At least 13 people have been killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory in the Indian state of Kerala. This was announced on April 22 by the BBC television channel.
"It is not yet clear how many workers were in the building and the extent of the injuries sustained. It is assumed that the cause of this tragic situation could be extreme heat," the publication says.
The incident occurred in Thrissur district. About 40 people were collecting pyrotechnics in storage rooms for the upcoming temple festival. Five of the injured are in critical condition.
The power of the explosion was felt several kilometers away, the newspaper writes. The fire that started slowed down the work of emergency services. It is reported that nearby residential buildings were seriously damaged.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to pay 200,000 rupees (about 160,000 rubles) each to the families of the victims. The victims will receive compensation in the amount of 50 thousand rupees (about 40 thousand rubles). Earlier, a similar pyrotechnic explosion at a factory in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of 25 people.
In October last year, a warehouse where pyrotechnics and pressurized gas cylinders were stored caught fire in the Czech region of Litomerice. According to the portal, the fire was recorded at about 20:00 (21:00 Moscow time) in a pavilion with an area of 50 m by 20 m.
