Excessive consumption of red meat kebabs can negatively affect the functioning of the heart, blood vessels and digestive system. Ekaterina Kashukh, an expert doctor at the Hemotest laboratory and a gastroenterologist, told Izvestia about this on April 22.

"From a dietary point of view, red meat is a valuable source of protein, iron, and B vitamins. But at the same time, this product can create an increased burden on the body. It's primarily about the digestive system and metabolism. 70 g of red meat shish kebab is the amount of product that allows you to get the most out of it without putting too much strain on your health," she said.

According to the expert, red meat is a source of protein, iron and B vitamins, however, overeating creates an increased burden on the body. In particular, excess fatty meat can increase cholesterol levels and negatively affect the cardiovascular system.

The expert stressed that an additional risk is associated with the cooking method. When frying over an open fire, substances are formed that can irritate the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines and contribute to the development of inflammatory processes.

"With extreme caution, people with chronic liver and gallbladder diseases should include shish kebab in the diet. Fatty and fried meat in them can provoke an exacerbation of diseases. When kidney function is disrupted, excess protein creates an additional load, and with pathologies of the stomach and intestines, shish kebab can irritate the mucous membrane," Kashukh said.

According to Kashuh, signs of poor tolerance may include heaviness in the stomach, heartburn, bloating, pain, and upset stools. The doctor recommended not to overuse shish kebab, combine it with vegetables and herbs and consider it as a festive, rather than an everyday dish.

Evgeny Belousov, a gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia on April 14 that the combination of pilaf and salads with mayonnaise is especially dangerous for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, metabolic disorders and cardiovascular problems. People with type 2 diabetes and lipid metabolism disorders should also be careful. This combination of saturated fats can worsen the course of these conditions.
