MAMT has opened recruitment for the second youth internship program
The Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko (MAMT) has opened registration for participation in the second Youth Internship program for the 2026-2027 season. This was announced on April 22 in the press service of the theater.
It is noted that vocalists, concertmasters and directors who wish to gain work experience in one of the leading musical theaters of the country are invited to the competitive tests.
The program is implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives and is aimed at developing specialists in the field of opera. Those who successfully qualify will be able to attend workshops and educational sessions, as well as participate in concerts and theater performances. The program is led by Alexander Titel, Artistic director and chief director of the MAMT Opera Company, People's Artist of Russia. A scholarship is paid to the participants throughout the internship.
The vocalists' department is headed by Natalia Popova, Head of the Solo Singing Department at the V.S. Popov Academy of Choral Art. Alexander Shirokov, a teacher at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, became the curator of the concertmasters, and Anna Trifonova oversees the direction. The musical assistant to the director is Svetlana Efimova, the leading concertmaster of MAMT. Teachers of German phonetics and French will also work with the trainees.
The competitive selection includes field auditions. On Friday, May 22, the commission will visit Krasnoyarsk, on May 23, auditions will be held in Novosibirsk, on June 19 in Ufa, on June 20 in St. Petersburg, and on June 22 in Nizhny Novgorod. The first tour for vocalists and concertmasters in Moscow is scheduled for the period from 24 to 26 June.
There are strict requirements for candidates: under 30 years of age for vocalists and concertmasters, and under 35 years of age for directors. A prerequisite is to have a diploma from a specialized university or proof of education at the time of application. Foreign citizens must be proficient in Russian.
In order to complete the first stage, the directors must provide a questionnaire and a brief explication of an opera composition of the XVIII–XX centuries with a detailed plan of one of the scenes. The face-to-face interview and defense of the plan will take place in early July 2026.
On February 22, the second report concert of the Youth Internship program "Soul Sings in Italian" took place in the MAMT Music Lounge. According to the theater's press service on February 13, the concert was based on the concept of a "revived museum." Trainee directors Igor Zavada and Sergey Molokov focused on opera classics and forgotten Italian music. In their works, they combined the heroes of arias with sculptural and picturesque images of Baroque and classicism.
