The program for celebrating the 81st anniversary of Victory in Volgograd has been published

The Volgograd Region has approved a set of events dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, as well as commemorative dates and patriotic initiatives, including flower-laying ceremonies, the opening of memorial sites and city actions. This was reported to Izvestia by the administration of the Volgograd region. The program covers the key sites of the hero city, including Mamayev Kurgan, Fallen Fighters Square and the 62nd Army Embankment.

Patriotic actions in Volgograd for the May holidays: "St. George's Ribbon" and "Light of the Great Victory"

During May, the St. George Ribbon city patriotic action will take place in Volgograd. It will cover the public spaces of the city and will be aimed at popularizing the symbols of Victory.

From May 7-9, the action "Light of the Great Victory" will be held on Mamayev Kurgan. The event traditionally includes the lighting design of the memorial complex and evening commemorative displays highlighting the significance of the historical site.

On May 8, at 10:00 a.m., a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Eternal Flame at the Mass Grave of the defenders of Krasny Tsaritsyn and soldiers of the 62nd and 64th armies who died defending Stalingrad. This was reported to Izvestia by the administration of the Volgograd region.

The event will be part of a citywide program of commemorative events dedicated to the preservation of historical memory. The ceremony will be attended by representatives of regional and municipal structures.

A rich program of events dedicated to Victory Day is planned in Volgograd on May 9. The celebration will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at 08:00 on Mamayev Kurgan at the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad Memorial Complex.

A parade of military units of the Volgograd territorial garrison will take place at 10:00. The program will continue on the lower terrace of the 62nd Army embankment.:

• 14:00 — athletics relay race dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory;
• 19:00 — gala concert "We are the heirs of the generation of winners!".

The events are distributed throughout the day and cover the main public spaces of the hero city.

The start time of the fireworks display is May 9th

Traditionally, the celebration of Victory Day on May 9 in Volgograd ends with an artillery salute. Fireworks will be launched from the lower terrace of the 62nd Army embankment at 22:00 Moscow time.

Fireworks usually last about 10 minutes. So, in 2024, 30 fireworks were launched into the sky from fireworks installations, and 30 volleys synchronized with the disclosure of pyrotechnic effects were fired from ZiS-3 guns.
