- The study showed an increase in the pressure of social networks on the appearance of women
Social media has become the main factor of pressure on the appearance of women in Russia, forming the so-called beauty race. This conclusion was reached by analysts of the SOKOLOV jewelry brand based on the results of a study, the data of which was reviewed on April 24 by Izvestia.
According to the survey, 75% of Russians consider social networks to be the main source of pressure and expectations. They set trends, enhance comparison with others, and create a sense of the need to meet high standards of appearance. At the same time, self-care remains an important part of life: 22% of women do it with pleasure, and 30% admit that they love care, but sometimes get tired of it.
Experts note that the attitude towards beauty routine is becoming more pragmatic. About 21% of respondents try to simplify care by limiting themselves to basic procedures, while 19% perceive it as a necessity. At the same time, 88% of women admit that they feel the pressure of society to look attractive in any situation.
The beauty race is perceived as a set of requirements: 66% of respondents associate it with the need to do everything from self-care to sports and proper nutrition. More than half point to the influence of trends from social networks, and one in two points to the constant comparison of themselves with others and the cost of cosmetics.
At the same time, not everyone is tired of such pressure: 34% of women admit that they are tired of the race, while 37% do not believe that they participate in it, and 29% say that they like it.
The study showed that women most often feel the need to look "on the level" at work and business meetings, as well as on dates and when posting photos on social networks. Curiously, 78% of respondents say that their appearance affects the attitude of others towards them.
Despite the pressure, Russians are increasingly seeking to simplify self-care. A quarter of the respondents have already reduced the number of procedures, and some have switched to more functional tools.
Maya Karika, cosmetologist at SLOWMO beauty salon, said on April 10 that dry and polluted air in offices can cause skin dehydration and increase sensitivity. According to her, office air is a factor in chronic skin dehydration. We are faced with a constant decrease in humidity, which leads to an increase in transepidermal moisture loss. As a result, the barrier function of the skin is disrupted, and it becomes more sensitive, reactive, and visually less healthy.
