There have been 219 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 219 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 12 people were killed and 266 injured. Nine of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 22 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 59 accidents, 24 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 35 outside their area of operation, three pedestrians were killed, and 57 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 12 underage pedestrians, six of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.
14 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 17 road users needed medical help. Eight bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers. Also, 21 accidents involving minors were registered, 22 young road users were injured, including four passengers. There are no dead children.
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists that the lives and health of their passengers depend entirely on their driving skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior. It is necessary to abandon risky driving, exceeding the permitted speed limit, sudden changes of lanes, overtaking and other dangerous maneuvers. It is important to reserve time in order to have time to adequately respond to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment.
The agency also drew the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. During the three weeks of April, 322 accidents involving underage passengers under the age of 16 occurred on Russian roads, in which ten people were killed and 383 children of this category of road users were injured.
In addition, temporary traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to the spring floods. So, in the Republic of Dagestan, as a result of the flood, sections of 10 regional highways were flooded, as a result of which traffic was temporarily stopped on them. In the Moscow Region, sections of six regional highways have been blocked for the same reasons. Traffic on three highways has been temporarily suspended in the Republic of Bashkortostan. In the Altai Territory and the Kurgan region, flooding temporarily stopped traffic on five highways in each of the regions.
When planning long-distance trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommended that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures. In case of a negative forecast or an unfavorable flood situation, the trip should be postponed to a later date until weather conditions and traffic conditions improve. If you still have to go on the road, you should think in advance and determine for yourself possible options for bypassing problem areas, the department advised.
"In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate draws the attention of drivers to the need for strict compliance with traffic rules in conditions of unstable spring weather. The differences between daytime and nighttime air temperatures, as well as heavy precipitation, increase the risk of accidents on the roads. Motorists should be more careful, avoid dangerous maneuvers, observe the established speed limit, taking into account weather conditions, increase the interval and distance between vehicles," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Earlier, on April 16, it was reported that by the end of 2025, the number of automatic cameras for recording traffic violations in Russia increased by about 500 units due to an increase in the number of stationary and mobile complexes, including tablets for recording parking violations. At the end of 2025, the number of cameras reached 32.5 thousand units.
