Rome has been besotted with its propaganda for many years, it's time to ask which side of history they're on. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said this on April 22, commenting on the summons of Russian Ambassador Alexei Paramonov to the Italian Foreign Ministry.

"They have been besotted with their propaganda for many years. For many years they allowed the Western media, focused on Washington and London, to mess with their brains," Zakharova told reporters.

She added that the Italian government is in a state of suspended animation, without taking a clear position. Zakharova urged Rome to ask itself the question "which side of history are they on?"

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on April 21 that the Russian ambassador to Italy, Alexei Paramonov, had been summoned to the Foreign Ministry in Rome. According to Tajani, he expressed a strong protest to the Russian representative in connection with Vladimir Solovyov's words about Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni. On the air of the program "Full Contact", the presenter criticized Meloni in Russian and Italian.

On April 14, US President Donald Trump said he was disappointed in Meloni because of the lack of support on Iran issues. The head of the White House stressed that he considered the Italian Prime Minister to be a "brave woman," but admitted that he was mistaken in his expectations.
