- Slovakia says it undermines confidence in the West by transferring nuclear weapons to Kiev
The transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine will undermine confidence in the West and destabilize the international security system. This was announced on April 22 by the Vice-speaker of the National Council (Parliament) of Slovakia, Tibor Gaspar.
"Such a transfer of nuclear weapons would violate international treaties and significantly undermine confidence in the West. The conflict would hardly have ended "more advantageously" for Ukraine — on the contrary, the risk of a global crisis and a potential nuclear clash would have increased dramatically," he stressed in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the agency's interlocutor, such a decision would be an extremely dangerous step. The politician stressed that this would destabilize not only the situation around Ukraine, but also the entire international security system.
Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said on March 26 that Western security guarantees for Ukraine should include the transfer of nuclear weapons to the country. He noted that Kiev needs clear security mechanisms against the background of Russia's status as a nuclear power.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia on March 28 that Western European countries would be the first victims of nuclear blackmail from Ukraine. According to Zakharova, Kiev will not just "demand money and tools" from these countries, but dictate to them the conditions for the maintenance of its regime.
