Many customers of credit institutions face unplanned write-offs for insurance and subscriptions that they did not apply for. On April 22, Alexander Khaminsky, head of the Law Enforcement Center in Moscow and the Moscow Region, spoke about ways to refund money.

"It is better to submit an application through the office or online banking, keeping the confirmation of the request. In many cases, the law provides for a "cooling—off period" during which the full cost of the imposed services can be refunded," Khaminsky explained in an interview with the Prime agency.

The expert stressed that since September 2025, such actions of financial organizations are officially prohibited. If the bank refuses to satisfy the request for a refund, the client is advised to file a complaint with the Bank of Russia or Rospotrebnadzor.

The specialist noted that the probability of a full refund directly depends on the promptness of the application. At the same time, careful study of the terms of the contract before signing it and regular checking of the list of actually connected services remains a key precautionary measure.

Sofya Lukinova, Head of the Legal Department at VMT Consult, said on April 8 that the Bank of Russia's initiative to introduce video banking contracts was consistent with the general course towards digitalization, but raised a number of legal issues. According to her, the very form of remote conclusion of the contract does not contradict the law, as long as the requirements for identifying the client and recording his consent are met.
