The nutritionist commented on the inverted nutrition pyramid
Nutritionist Roman Pristansky explained on Tuesday, April 21, commenting on the proposal of American scientists to turn the usual nutrition pyramid upside down: proteins and fats at the bottom, carbohydrates at the top, why you should not blindly trust new schemes and how to actually build a healthy diet.
"The nutrition pyramid is a very conventional concept. Each nutritionist has his own pyramid depending on the task of a particular client. The main point is in the physiological characteristics of each of the people," he said in an interview with Radio 1.
According to the expert, the new pyramid does not negate physiology: carbohydrates provide energy, fats build hormones and protect blood vessels, and protein serves as a "building block" for the body. Pristansky said that protein is the only toxic element in this table.
"If you go over two grams per kilogram of weight, it may not completely break down, and ammonia is formed. This negatively affects the kidneys in the first place. Fanatically following the "inverted" pyramid is a direct path to ketosis. It is difficult to enter it without control, and uncontrolled consumption of meat and fats can lead to putrefactive processes in the intestines and overload of the kidneys," he explained.
The nutritionist suggested three simple steps: calculate your basal metabolism using the formula; add an activity coefficient; start from the goal: minus 300-400 kcal for weight loss, plus for weight gain.
In turn, Mehman Mammadov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Secondary Prevention at the National Research Medical Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, recalled in an interview with kp.ru that nutritionists have a popular approach called the "Harvard plate", when at each meal half of the plate is occupied by vegetables and fruits, a quarter by proteins: fish, poultry, legumes, and the remaining quarter are whole grains: brown rice, buckwheat, and so on. This visual method clearly and simply shows what ratio of protein products, carbohydrates, fats and fiber should be guided at each meal.
Ekaterina Burlyaeva, Candidate of Medical Sciences, nutritionist, head of the consultative and diagnostic center "Healthy and Sports Nutrition" of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution "FIT Nutrition and Biotechnology", clarified that animal proteins are absorbed in the human body by 80-90%, while plant proteins are absorbed by 40-60%, the Moscow City News agency reports.
Evgeny Belousov, a gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia on April 14 that the combination of pilaf and salads with mayonnaise is especially dangerous for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, metabolic disorders and cardiovascular problems. People with type 2 diabetes and lipid metabolism disorders should also be careful. This combination of saturated fats can worsen the course of these conditions.
