Russian Emelin became a three-time European wrestling champion
Russian Olympic medalist Sergey Emelin won gold at the European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Tirana on April 21, becoming a three-time winner of the continental championship.
According to Sport-Express, in the final bout in the weight category up to 63 kg, Emelin defeated the representative of Moldova, Vitaly Eremenko. Earlier, Russian Emin Sefershaev won gold in the category up to 55 kg.
Kerem Kamal from Turkey and Karen Aslanyan from Armenia won bronze medals in the weight class up to 63 kg.
Emelin is 30 years old, he became a three-time European champion, having previously won in 2018 and 2021. He has won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a victory at the 2018 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships. The European Championship will end on April 26.
On April 19, Russian judoka took the third place in the team medal standings of the European Championship, which was held in Tbilisi. The Russians have won seven awards: two gold, one silver and four bronze.
