- The State Duma explained the withdrawal of the draft on the deprivation of citizenship for refusing military registration
On April 21, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin commented on the situation with the withdrawal of the draft law on military registration and acquired citizenship of the Russian Federation.
According to him, the development of a new law on this issue has become irrelevant, since a similar provision has already been adopted and entered into force.
"The issue of compliance with the legislation of our country by those who want to become its citizens has been and remains a priority in the work of the State Duma," Volodin said in a message on the MAX messenger.
He also recalled that when obtaining Russian citizenship, candidates are required to know the Russian language, respect the culture of the country, comply with its laws and register for military service.
Volodin clarified that we are talking about Federal Law No. 281-FZ of 08.08.2024. According to this document, one of the grounds for termination of acquired Russian citizenship is failure to fulfill the obligation to initially register for military service.
The day before, the State Duma withdrew a bill on deprivation of citizenship for evading military registration. According to the explanatory note to the draft law, it was aimed at clarifying the grounds, conditions and procedure for termination of Russian citizenship in connection with evasion from military duty by citizens of the country who reached the age of 18 and received citizenship without being born in Russia.
