Likhachev called Rosatom's priority task the energy launch of the Akkuyu NPP
The priority task of the Rosatom State Corporation is to launch an energy start-up, connect to the grid and provide electricity at the first unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP). This was announced on April 21 by the head of the state corporation Alexey Likhachev.
"The priority task of the Rosatom state Corporation is to launch an energy start—up, connect to the grid and provide the first electricity at the first unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant," Likhachev said.
He noted that by now the stable connection of the first Akkuyu unit with the Turkish energy system has been ensured, and the construction readiness of the unit is about 99%. At the same time, the head of Rosatom explained that the volume of commissioning work has been completed by 65%. According to him, the Turkish contractors and Rosatom will do everything to make this year the year Turkey acquires nuclear energy. In addition, Likhachev noted the involvement of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the construction of the station.
"This is a great honor and a huge responsibility for us. In a new country, using equipment that is generally made with import substitution in mind, these are always additional challenges," he added.
On January 19, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced that the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP was 99% ready. According to him, he and Likhachev had a detailed conversation about the progress of the project after the inspection of the facility.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, reported in December last year that Turkey was waiting for the timely commissioning of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, and the launch of the first reactor was already scheduled for 2026.
