A massive road accident involving eight vehicles occurred on the Garden Ring in Moscow, in which two people were killed. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
Circumstances of the accident on the Garden Ring
The accident occurred on April 20 at 23:05 on Sadovaya-Chernogryazskaya Street in the area of house 13. A woman born in 1996, driving a Mercedes car under the influence of alcohol, hit the driver of an electric bicycle. After that, the foreign car collided with a parked car, a road fence and five other vehicles.
The State Traffic Inspectorate clarified that among the participants in the incident was also a BMW car, which collided with a cyclist and ran over the repair site. As a result of the incident, fragments of broken cars were scattered along the road, and some cars flew onto the sidewalk. An investigative task force and employees of the capital's Interior Ministry department were working on the site.
"On Sadovaya-Chernogryazskaya Street in the area of house 13, the driver of a BMW car collided with a cyclist, followed by hitting the repair site and four more vehicles," the press service of the State Traffic Inspectorate reported.
Information about victims and injured
Two people became victims of a mass accident. A man driving an electric bike died at the scene. A passenger of one of the vehicles involved in the collision was also killed. Two more people suffered injuries of varying severity and sought medical help.
Correspondent Sergey Khaidarov showed footage from the scene of the accident, which shows a completely deformed passenger car. Rescuers were working to remove the battery from the damaged car to prevent a possible fire. Eyewitnesses described the moment of the accident as a series of sudden maneuvers, followed by an explosion and flying debris.
"From afar, I saw the headlights flashing like "checkers" when playing. Then I see that someone has crashed, there is an explosion, plastic is flying in different directions. And the car that crashed is flying up," said a witness to the incident.
Due to a large-scale traffic accident, traffic in the Garden Ring area was significantly hampered for a long time.
Criminal case and detention of the culprit of the accident
Police officers detained the driver of the Mercedes car that caused the collision. It is known that 29-year-old Anna V. used to work for Rossotrudnichestvo. During the inspection, it was found that the woman was intoxicated.
The investigation of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Central Administrative District of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow opened a criminal case against the detainee. The driver's actions are qualified under Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for liability for traffic violations committed while intoxicated and resulting in the death of two persons by negligence. A group of investigators continues to establish all the circumstances of the incident in the center of the capital.
