The slouching of gadget users is associated not only with weak back muscles, but also with the rigidity of the thoracic spine. Nina Duvanova, a certified physiologist, nutritionist and yoga therapist, told Izvestia about this on April 23.

"With a hard chest (and 99% of active smartphone users have it), training only fixes the wrong position," she noted.

According to the expert, in most people, flexor muscles prevent straightening, so strength exercises do not always have an effect. In such cases, the passive extension method may be more effective, aimed at gently lengthening the pectoral muscles.

The expert explained that for this purpose a towel roller 5-7 cm thick is used, on which it is necessary to lie down in the area below the shoulder blades. This practice allows you to gradually open the chest and form the correct body position due to the so-called fascial memory.

She added that it is recommended to perform the exercise daily for 7-10 minutes for a month. It is important to avoid sudden movements after completing the practice, so as not to provoke a muscle spasm.

"After 21 days of daily practice, stretching receptors in muscles and ligaments transmit a new signal to the brain. The bent position is becoming the norm," Duvanova explained.

According to her, the method is not suitable for acute back pain or exacerbation of spinal diseases. The expert stressed that for a sustainable result, it is important to change daily habits, in particular, to keep the smartphone screen at eye level.

Andrey Zhuk, dentist, orthodontist, Candidate of medical Sciences, founder of the OrthoLike clinic, said on April 20 that there is a link between bite and posture, but it is indirect and does not allow to correct back problems only with the help of orthodontic treatment. According to the expert, malocclusion can create additional tension in the chewing and neck muscles, which in some cases extends to the upper back. This is especially noticeable in children and adolescents with impaired posture.
