On April 20, US President Donald Trump criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's decision to appoint Peter Mandelson, who is suspected of passing government information to financier Jeffrey Epstein, as British ambassador.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has admitted that he "exercised the wrong prudence" by choosing the ambassador to Washington. I agree, it was a really bad choice," he wrote on the Truth Social network.

The American leader stressed that Starmer has "plenty" of time to fix the situation.

Mandelson's detention became known on February 23. It was noted that the former ambassador, who denies any wrongdoing, was taken to the police station for questioning.

On September 11 last year, Starmer fired Mandelson from his post as the kingdom's ambassador to the United States because of his ties to Epstein. The emails show that the depth and extent of his relationship with the financier are significantly different from those known at the time of his appointment.

On April 17, Reuters reported that Starmer did not intend to resign amid the scandal surrounding Mandelson, who failed a security check but still took up his post. The prime minister stated that he was not aware of the violation.
