The Japanese government has officially approved a decision to review three principles for the transfer of defense equipment. These changes actually lift previous restrictions on the export of weapons, including lethal weapons. This was announced on April 21 by the Secretary General of the Japanese Cabinet, Minoru Kihara.

"We will strategically promote the transfer of defense equipment in order to create a favorable security environment for our country and strengthen the industrial base that supports our combat capability. We will adhere to the fundamental principles of a peaceful state that we have been building for more than 80 years," the Reuters news agency quoted him as saying.
